Vancouver Hack Space Open House @ Vancouver Hack Space
Mar 7 @ 3:00 am – 6:00 am

Vancouver Hack Space provides a physical space where hackers, computer geeks, engineers, circuit benders, crafters, and other creative types can gather to share ideas, equipment and opinions. They aim to create a sort of 24/7 brain gym, where members can show up and work on personal projects, consult with friends, and learn new tricks. More than just a studio space, VHS focuses on sharing all sorts of knowledge within a friendly and collaborative atmosphere.

Every Tuesday night, their space is open for people to come and work on one of their projects, socialize with other nerdy folk and maybe learn something at one of the workshops. Each Tuesday meeting may have a theme – maybe a presentation or a project demo or a show-and-tell, or it may be an “Open Hack” night, where there is no specific talk, but the space is open.

For more information, see the VHS website.

Vancouver Retro Gaming Expo @ The Columbia
Mar 17 @ 6:00 pm – Mar 18 @ 12:00 am

IRL Events is proud to help sponsor the Vancouver Retro Gaming Expo.

This 15-hour gaming expo has taken the basics of vendors, retro video games, tournaments, panels, charity auctions, costumes, etc. and spiced it up a bit with a licensed venue, a DJ spinning some old-school tracks and remixes, and nerd burlesque into the evening.

Instead of 2-3 shorter days with the same content spread out, as much content as possibly could has been crammed into one big day.

For more information, check out the IRL Events forum, or http://www.vancouvergamingexpo.com/.

HackVan 2012 @ A Thinking Ape
Mar 24 @ 4:00 pm – Mar 25 @ 2:00 am

HackVAN is the 2012 Vancouver-based edition of HackDays, the one-day API programming hackathon events that take place across Canada.

For one day, teams of 1 – 3 developers work on integrating with one or more of the sponsors APIs. Judges from the local tech community judge based on awesomeness and technical difficulty, and we award fantastic prizes including a MacBook Air, iPads, e-readers and more.

We’ll start with a mixer on Friday night so people can find development partners and meet everyone else, and then you have one day on Saturday to code your entire application. We’ll keep you fed and pour you a beer at  the end of the day, and then the presentations and judging occur.

Tickets can be found at http://hackvan2012.eventbrite.com/
