Former ‘Smallville’ and ‘Secret Circle’ Showrunners to Helm ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Reboot

Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders, known for their work on the final seasons of Smallville and as consulting producers on The Secret Circle have been hired to run the Kristen Kreuk-starring reboot of Beauty and the Beast. Admittedly, this is the first time I’ve seen a still from the show, and it appears that we have gone from Ron Perlman’s brooding and mysterious prosthetics to…a scar. A single scar. Does the Beauty and the Beast thing even work if the Beast is gorgeous? What about the themes of inner beauty, looking beyond appearances, and… Look why don’t we just start making the logical endgame for this? Gender-swapped version of I Dream of Genie, Thursdays at 8! And that folks, is why they pay me the big bucks.

Terra Nova’s Jay Ryan plays the Beast in Vancouver Beauty and the Beast Pilot

The CW’s Beauty and the Beast has found its beast in the form of Jay Ryan, who has previously played Curran, a deposed security guard on the Terra Nova series. We have also learned that this Beast is the product of a failed military experiment, which effectively has killed all the mystery of this show for me. Wasn’t a sense of mystery the whole appeal of the Beast? From the original Fairy Tale to the Disney movie, we’ve all wondered how this tortured creature got to be the way he is, and now that we can wonder no longer, it’s a good bet that the series won’t make it past the pilot stage.

Kristin Kreuk to star in Beauty and the Beast

The CW has announced that Kristin Kreuk (Smallville‘s Lana Lang) will star in their Beauty and the Beast pilot. The show is a reboot of the 1980’s Beauty and the Beast TV series starring Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman. I know the show’s probably going to be set in Seattle, New York, or some other non-descript state, but it would be awesome to have it set Vancouver. Can you imagine having a Beast around to clean up the Downtown Eastside?
