The Ninja Turtles Return to Vancouver

At least there’s one aspect of the TMNT movie that won’t change. After being turned into aliens and adults, the Ninja Turtles movie has been scheduled to shoot in the summer and fall of 2012 in Vancouver, B.C. exactly like its live-action predecessor. The movie is to be directed by Wrath of the Titans‘ Jonathan Liebesman and written by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. The probability of your childhood being molested is still likely.

Sign This Petition to Help the #EXPBar!

After being foiled at ruining everyone’s fun at the Rio Theatre, the BC Liquor board has banned the use of video games in the EXP bar, Vancouver’s first video game themed restaurant. It’s always something isn’t it? Brian Vidovic has set up this petition at change.org so we can let the BC government know that we don’t take kindly to these kinds of shenanigans. The EXP bar isn’t just an attempt at a funky themed restaurant. It’s going to build community and camaraderie for a maturing industry that has for too long suffered from a branch plant mentality under the major game publishers. New companies will be born from this venture, and that’s the only thing that can make our economy grow. So sign the petition, and while you’re at it, pre-order another gift card so you can actually buy a drink too.

Not Even A DVD for The Secret Circle?

Fate has taken a turn for the cruel for the fans of The Secret Circle. Warner Brothers has announced that they will not be opting for a Season 1 DVD set. The episodes can still be downloaded on iTunes (and *cough* isohunt), but this is an insult even Firefly fans didn’t have to suffer. With the Geek lobby larger, powerful, and more organized, it sounds TV execs have made teenage YA fans the new marginalized group du jour.

Jennifer Spence Interview on VanCity Buzz

VanCity Buzz haas posted an interview with the star of Continuum, Jennifer Spence. She talks about some of the challenges shooting the Showcase series and some of her upcoming feature film projects:

Jen: A fun little piece of trivia is we shot outside the CBC building and it doubled as one of the giant corporations in the city. We created a tent ”occupy” city and had a crowd of protestors rioting – it looked like the real deal!

You can check out the rest of the interview here.

EA Canada Hiring for a New Action Shooter IP

According to the EA Canada Job board, they are hiring a lead game designer for an all new AAA action shooter. Details about the project are scant, but they require that the winning candidate have a “proven track record of designing and balancing combat, player controls, and AI for AAA shooters or action games.” If anything this sounds more like a marketing ploy than an actual job posting. They’d probably have a lot more luck just petitioning those kinds of developers directly instead inviting them to force themselves through the sausage tube of HR.

One fan donates $5,100 to Save “The Secret Circle”

The Make-a-Wish drive to save  The Secret Circle is making some impressive headway with $7,500 donated so far. $5,100 of that take was generated by a single donor! One of the show’s executive producers, Andrew Miller, was moved by this donation to set up a charity auction himself. The series certainly has a lot of staying power for such a short run. Maybe it’s destined to be the fantasy genre’s version of Firefly.

Behold! The Many things Based on BattleStar Galactica

If you feel like your life needs a little more Battlestar Galactica in it, the internet has provided you with more options than ever.

First, there’s this 12-inch scale replica of the eponymous starship modeled by PSEUDOLO. It probably doesn’t come with that sweet paint job, but apparently it’s a really well-built kit.

You can also carry around your data in this USB flash drive from Anovos Productions.

Anovos is also producing these double tank tops, which admittedly made no sense to me in the series.
